Rev. Mr. Jaime A. Garcia |
||||||||||||
My name is Jaime Garcia and I was born in Guatemala, Central America. I am the first son of five children. My father, deceased, was an accountant and my mother was a homemaker. I lived in my hometown until the age of 11, and then moved to the city with my grandmother and uncles in order to continue my education. Life with my parents was extremely disciplined. They instructed me on family values, moral values, and spiritual growth, which served as foundation for my life. |

Religious life as a child was normal. My family and I attended Mass every Sunday; I was baptized and made my First Communion and Confirmation. I always had the ambition to succeed in either law or the priesthood, for I wanted to assist other people. Therefore, I attended law school at the University of San Carlos Barromeo in Guatemala for three years. At age 25, due to family, political, military and economic reasons, I was compelled to search new opportunities in the United States. I met Fr. John Randall and Deacon Jose Rico and they asked me to join them in evangelizing our Hispanic community. Since that time, I have participated in many ministries. These include teaching Catechism, Confirmation, Eucharist Minister, and a member of the Parish Council. Another priest who helped me in my discernment about my vocation and in my formation is Father Jorge Cordova, a Spanish priest from Ecuador. My heart was always open to the possibility of serving God and his Church as a priest. After prayerful discernment, my spiritual director and I decided that I would spend a year with the community Companions of the Cross in Ottowa, Canada. The experience of living in a community rooted in prayer helped me to discover that God has a plan for each of us. In His infinite wisdom, He wants only what is best for us. Five years ago I decided to continue my priestly education with the support of the Office of Vocations of the Diocese of Providence. The Diocese recommended that I enroll at St. John Vianney College Seminary in Florida. I received my Bachelor Degree in Philosophy in May 2004. In this college seminary I had the opportunity to share with other seminarians from different dioceses of the United States and from other parts of the world. This experience helped me to grow spiritually and to improve my English skills. Currently, I am completing my first year of theology at Blessed John XXIII National Seminary in Weston, Massachusetts. I believe deep in my heart that God is calling me to serve Him. I trust completely that this is the path, which God has prepared for me, and I desire with all my heart to follow Him and serve Him and His Church. I am very grateful to our Blessed Mother for she gives me courage and energy to follow Christ. Therefore, I consecrate myself and my vocation every day to her motherly love, and she responds to me with pure love. Daily my greatest joy is to pray and be in the Lord's presence with the assurance that He has called me to serve Him. |
