Requiem In Pace
We are saddened to announce the sudden death of Reverend Monsignor John Lolio, pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Church in East Greenwich and part-time Latin professor at the Seminary of Our Lady of Providence, on Sunday, May 6, 2012. Monsignor Lolio received his B.A. in Philosophy from the College Seminary of Our Lady of Providence and continued his studies for the priesthood at St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore, where he received his Bachelor of Sacred Theology and Master of Divinity. He was ordained in 1970 and was assigned as assistant pastor to St. Sebastian Parish and to the faculty of Our Lady of Providence Preparatory Seminary where he served as chairman of the English department and taught a variety of courses including classical literature and Latin. Monsignor has served as chaplain at Bryant College, pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Bristol, and, since 1992, pastor of Our Lady of Mercy where he also served as dean of the West Bay Deanery. In 2009, the Holy Father named him a Chaplain to His Holiness with the title Reverend Monsignor. May the Lord grant this good and faithful servant eternal rest.
